OpenAI has teased its first physical product, called the "Codex Micro," which is slated to launch on July 15. The shortcut keyboard was co-built with Work Louder, a Canadian-Italian maker of macro pads.
From the teaser images and descriptions, the Codex Micro closely resembles Work Louder's existing Creator Micro 2 model: it includes a joystick and bears OpenAI branding on the top. An OpenAI spokesperson said the device is "designed to supercharge people's codex usage," indicating it is intended to accelerate and improve how people work with Codex.
Commentary around the reveal notes that OpenAI has framed the product launch with a countdown and promotional material that highlight what appears to be a relatively conventional hardware device. Based on the publicly shared visuals, the unit does not obviously show hardware features that would clearly exceed what can already be achieved by configuring a typical macro pad—unless the keys provide capabilities beyond normal macro pads, or the device integrates live session sync, agent control, or seamless switching between parallel Codex tasks.
In short: OpenAI's first hardware offering currently looks like an existing macro pad model with OpenAI branding. The company presents it as an upgrade for Codex users, but publicly available information so far does not make it clear what distinctive new functions the device provides.
