OpenClaw launches mobile apps for iOS and Android, enabling on-device access to AI agents

OpenClaw, the free and open-source AI agent platform that drew widespread attention earlier this year, is now available as a mobile app on both iOS and Android. The project announced the release on X on Tuesday.

A key feature of the mobile apps is the ability to pair your phone with the OpenClaw Gateway. The Gateway acts as a routing layer that connects users' requests to agents and the tools and skills those agents use to complete tasks. This lets users run OpenClaw agents from their pocket, provided the agents have been configured appropriately.

Use cases and user experience

Members of the OpenClaw community have applied the system to a variety of tasks: reports note uses ranging from coding assistance to meal planning. At the same time, results have been mixed, and some users have reported less-satisfactory outcomes on certain tasks.

Background and significance

OpenClaw attracted greater public attention earlier in the year around the MoltBook episode: MoltBook was presented as a social site purportedly populated entirely by agents, and that visibility helped raise awareness of the project. In February, Peter Steinberger, the creator of OpenClaw, announced he had joined OpenAI.

Subsequent research indicated that the MoltBook spectacle had been partly staged, with humans impersonating agents, a finding reported by researchers. While that reduced some credibility, the episode nonetheless highlighted interest in an agent-driven future.

Agents continuing to spread

Agent-based tools have continued to proliferate across the AI landscape, appearing in more products and platforms over time. The launch of OpenClaw’s mobile apps marks another step toward making agent capabilities accessible not only on desktops but also on everyday mobile devices.
