Pinterest has launched a new feature called Restyle in beta in the United States and Canada that uses artificial intelligence to let users test home decor and design changes on photos of their own spaces. The company announced the feature on Thursday, and said it is powered by its Pinterest Intelligence system.
How Restyle works
With Restyle, a user takes a photo of a room and prompts the AI to apply modifications such as adding wall art, furniture, accessories or other decor items, swapping or erasing existing objects, or changing lighting, paint color and plants. Users can also ask the AI to restyle the entire room into a distinct aesthetic — for example “bohemian,” “industrial,” “whimsical,” or “dopamine.” Items from images found on Pinterest can be used as sources for these edits.
Individual objects in the scene are interactive: users can click items to replace or remove them and make further edits within the preview.
Technical basis and business intent
Pinterest said on Monday that Pinterest Intelligence combines Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Nvidia Dynamo with open-source models and Pinterest-built technology. The partnership and underlying infrastructure are intended to improve the Pinterest Assistant’s visual search capabilities, convert user searches into signals for AI-driven discovery and shopping, and enhance the platform’s overall visual intelligence.
Integrating restyling directly into Pinterest could help convert saved inspiration into purchases: by visualizing items in their actual rooms, users may be more likely to buy things they previously pinned, closing the loop from pinning to purchase.
Availability
Pinterest first previewed the feature at its annual Pinterest Presents event, where it also introduced new visual search ads, app-promotion features and other advertiser tools. Restyle is currently available only as an early preview in the U.S. and Canada; Pinterest says it will roll the feature out more broadly next month.
