Globwise has been appointed as an advisor on a European-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure project that envisions a hyperscale AI and HPC (high-performance computing) data centre platform situated adjacent to the Paksi Atomerőmű, the company told HelloMagyar.

Project overview

The planned platform is designed specifically for energy-intensive AI and high-performance computing workloads, with scalability up to 300 megawatts of AI and HPC capacity. The target is for the facility to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2028.

Reported estimates put the total investment cost between €3.2 billion and €4.2 billion, illustrating the capital required for the next wave of European AI infrastructure.

Infrastructure and energy supply

As project enablers, the developer cites secured land and advanced grid access. The plans also include a renewable energy system featuring photovoltaic production—partly over agricultural land—and battery storage to balance generation.

Energy security and network connectivity are highlighted as key design considerations from the early planning stages. The platform is being positioned as a large-scale European AI data centre development with a stable energy supply.

Stakeholders and next steps

The project company is 3D Zrt., which the reports say has already passed several milestones: land security has been completed, grid planning is advanced, and governmental consultations have taken place.

Globwise’s role is to identify and connect capital investors, infrastructure developers, sovereign investors, strategic operators and other relevant parties to the project. Michele Orzan, a lead partner at Globwise, described the assignment as the convergence of three structural drivers: rapidly accelerating demand for AI infrastructure, a European need for energy-secure hyperscale capacity, and the growing importance of bankable, grid-connectable development platforms.

Key questions going forward

In the coming period, a central issue will be which types of investors and operators join the project and whether they can keep to the schedule aiming for a late-2028 start of operations. The development’s strategic advantage is its status as a pre-prepared, grid-connectable platform, which could shorten the lead time compared with infrastructure builds that typically require several additional years of preparation.

If investor and operator commitments are secured, the Paks-adjacent platform could become one of the large-scale, energy-secure projects in Europe’s next phase of AI infrastructure development.
