Sam Altman, chief executive officer of OpenAI, will meet with Trump administration officials on Wednesday and Thursday, a person familiar with the plans told Semafor.
His trip comes as the administration pushes to finalize a voluntary review process for advanced artificial intelligence models by August 1 — a deadline set 60 days after President Donald Trump signed a long-awaited executive order.
According to the source, Altman is scheduled to meet this week with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. OpenAI Chief Global Affairs Officer Chris Lehane also said last week that Altman is expected to meet with lawmakers.
OpenAI worked with Anthropic and Google to provide feedback on a draft of the voluntary review process. Lehane stated that the company still believes there will ultimately be a need for a national standard that is enacted through the legislative process.
The meetings are intended to brief policymakers on OpenAI’s latest advanced model and to communicate the company’s views and suggestions ahead of forthcoming regulatory decisions.
