Samsung Electronics rolls out ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex company-wide for DX division and Korea

Samsung Electronics is rolling out OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to its employees: the services will be available to all Samsung Electronics employees in Korea and to all employees worldwide within the Device eXperience (DX) division. OpenAI says this is one of its largest enterprise deployments to date.

How the tools will be used

Samsung plans to employ ChatGPT and Codex for both technical and non-technical work across a broad set of functions, including software development, marketing, product development, and manufacturing, with the aim of improving employee productivity and problem-solving.

ChatGPT will be used to accelerate a range of knowledge-based tasks such as searching for and analyzing information, drafting documents, developing ideas, and interpreting data. ChatGPT Enterprise includes enterprise-grade features—data protection, user and access management, and security controls—that allow advanced AI use within Samsung’s security policies and governance framework.

Codex, which began as a tool for software development, is increasingly being applied beyond developer tasks. It can boost developer productivity in writing, reviewing, and debugging code, and it can help non-technical teams turn ideas into working software, internal tools, websites, and automated workflows.

Usage numbers and growth

According to the announcement, more than 5 million people now use Codex every week for technical and non-technical workflows and roles. Weekly active Codex users in Korea have grown nearly 800% since February 1, 2026.

Statements on the collaboration

“This historic deployment for OpenAI is particularly significant because Samsung Electronics, a global leader in technology and manufacturing, is embracing AI not as a tool limited to certain teams or functions, but as a core platform for improving how employees around the world work and innovate,” said Harrison Kim, General Manager of OpenAI Korea. He added: “OpenAI will work closely with Samsung Electronics to help its employees level up with ChatGPT and Codex to move from ideas to execution faster, solve complex problems, and create new products and services.”

Connection to earlier cooperation

OpenAI and Samsung Electronics previously collaborated on global AI infrastructure: Samsung Electronics is supplying advanced memory semiconductors needed for next-generation AI infrastructure. With the adoption of ChatGPT Enterprise, the relationship is expanding beyond infrastructure to include workforce transformation and company-wide AI adoption.

Local and industry context in South Korea

Other organizations in Korea are also adopting AI tools: Seoul National University recently began providing ChatGPT Edu to its 47,000-member community of students, faculty, and staff as part of its move to become an AI-native campus. OpenAI has worked with Kakao to let people ask ChatGPT questions and receive responses directly within KakaoTalk group chats.

A range of South Korean companies are using ChatGPT Enterprise, OpenAI APIs, and Codex. The list cited includes LG Electronics, LG Uplus, LG CNS, GS E&C, Samsung SDS, TVING, Krafton, Toss, MUSINSA, Korea Zinc, Nexen Tire, and HanaTour.

Why this matters

Samsung Electronics’ expanded deployment shows that AI adoption at large manufacturing and technology firms is moving beyond isolated pilots toward strategic, company-wide use to support daily work and innovation. Broad functional use combined with enterprise security and governance features is central to enabling wider adoption inside the company.

Summary

Samsung Electronics will make ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex available to all employees in Korea and to all staff in its global DX division, extending its partnership with OpenAI from infrastructure collaboration into workforce transformation and enterprise AI use.
