The Prysmian Group, a global leader in energy and telecommunications cable products, has advanced its digital transformation in partnership with SAP. Using RISE with SAP, SAP Business AI and the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP), Prysmian implemented a unified, cloud‑based and AI‑ready platform within four months.
As a result of the transformation, Prysmian achieved measurable business impacts: it automated up to 70 percent of repetitive tasks with embedded AI, reduced the deployment time for new AI solutions by 80 percent, and accelerated time‑to‑market for new products by 50 percent.
The project also received international recognition: at the SAP Sapphire conference in Madrid, Prysmian won the SAP Innovation Awards 2026. The award honors organizations that turn SAP cloud and AI technologies into tangible business results.
Objectives and what was built
Prysmian aimed to integrate artificial intelligence not as an isolated experiment but as an intrinsic part of daily operations. By combining SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud, SAP Business AI, Joule and SAP BTP, the company created an intelligent enterprise platform that:
- improves operational efficiency,
- speeds decision‑making,
- strengthens forecasting capabilities,
- and provides a foundation for more than 100 AI‑based use cases.
Concrete implementations include intelligent order automation, automated payment reconciliation and smart cost‑management solutions. In addition, leveraging SAP BTP Prysmian developed an advanced cable design platform that connects engineering and business functions, standardizes rules, processes and bills of materials, and accelerates product development.
Executive perspectives
"RISE with SAP provided us with a global ERP foundation, SAP BTP linked engineering and business areas, while embedded AI transformed how our people work with data," said Giovanni Cauteruccio, Prysmian Group Chief Information and Digital Officer.
"This redefines how Prysmian operates at a global scale. Embedded AI has proved a clear competitive advantage: it speeds solution deployment while strengthening AI‑related skills and organizational culture," he added.
Manos Raptopoulos, Global Head of SAP Customer Success for Europe, Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, commented that Prysmian’s consistent technological renewal, focus on competitiveness and openness to new business models justified the award.
Hidvégi Péter, Managing Director of SAP Hungary, emphasized that competition among manufacturers today is shaped not only by capacity but by intelligent use of data, and that Prysmian’s example is particularly relevant given manufacturing’s importance in Hungary.
Prysmian’s scale and strategic position
Prysmian posts about EUR 20 billion in annual revenue, operates in more than 50 countries, employs 34,000 people, and runs 109 manufacturing plants and 30 R&D centers. Building on a long history of industrial innovation, the company positions the new technology platform as the foundation for its next growth phase.
The project demonstrates that integrating cloud, data and AI can create tangible value: increasing resilience, supporting sustainable growth and accelerating business innovation.
Why this matters
Prysmian’s case shows that AI delivers real business value when it is directly embedded in daily operations and built on corporate data and processes. The project’s measurable outcomes — 70 percent automation of repetitive tasks, an 80 percent reduction in AI deployment time, and a 50 percent faster time‑to‑market — provide a practical example of turning technology into competitive advantage.
The SAP Innovation Awards has, for 13 years, recognized organizations that use SAP cloud and AI technologies to provide innovative, measurable solutions to real business challenges.
