Valar Atomics confirmed on Monday that it raised a large funding round led by Sequoia. Founder and CEO Isaiah Taylor announced the company secured $1 billion in equity financing, and that Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire will join Valar's board. The company also obtained a $200 million line of credit from Erebor and other banks.
Valar did not disclose a valuation in its announcement; Bloomberg reported that the company’s valuation is around $6 billion.
What Valar is building
Valar Atomics develops small modular reactors (SMRs) — factory-built, scaled-down nuclear power plants intended to be cheaper and faster to deploy than traditional reactors. In June, the company said its Ward 250 reactor successfully powered an NVIDIA Blackwell system, and it announced a deal with NVIDIA to develop a waterless 30 MW "AI factory."
According to Valar, operating these reactors produces engineering, manufacturing, and operational data that accelerate subsequent reactor designs. The company stated: "It took two years to complete the NOVA core. It took seven months to take Ward 250 critical. With each reactor built, the tick rate will become smaller until Valar is producing tens, then hundreds, then thousands of reactors per year." Valar said the new funding will support reaching the next milestone of manufacturing fleets of SMRs.
