Insight Partners leads $200M round for Spur Intelligence to fight sophisticated bot traffic

Spur Intelligence, a cybersecurity startup based in Lake Mary, Florida, has closed a $200 million funding round led by Insight Partners. The company said it will use the new capital to advance its products and expand commercially.

Company background and technology

Founded in 2017 by two former U.S. Department of Defense engineers — five years before the public launch of ChatGPT — Spur Intelligence builds technology that helps distinguish legitimate human users from increasingly concealed bot traffic. Its tools are designed to surface fake accounts and other threats that hide behind anonymization services and proxy networks.

Thomas Krane of Insight Partners noted in a written statement that, as “sophisticated criminal VPNs, residential proxy networks, and anonymization infrastructure proliferate, organizations are increasingly operating with a critical blind spot: they can see the activity, but not the infrastructure behind it.”

Why it matters now

Detecting malicious traffic has long been a challenge for corporate security teams, but the problem has intensified recently. According to Cloudflare’s latest traffic report, bot activity surpassed human activity on the internet as of mid-2026. Matthew Prince, founder and CEO of Cloudflare, posted that agentic traffic has grown so quickly that bots have for the first time in the Internet’s history passed human traffic online.

Implications and outlook

The funding should allow Spur Intelligence to accelerate development of detection capabilities and scale solutions for organizations seeking to mitigate risks posed by anonymous proxies and botnets. At the same time, the shift toward greater bot activity increases demand for such defenses and heightens competition in the cybersecurity market.

The funding announcement did not disclose additional details such as the company’s valuation or the specific allocation of the proceeds.
