Kifli integrates with ChatGPT to let users chat their shopping from July

From July, online grocer kifli.hu will be accessible through a ChatGPT integration, allowing users to prepare shopping lists and discover products via conversational queries on both desktop and mobile. The new interface is designed to support product discovery, recipe suggestions, basket assembly and even full shopping planning in a chat-like experience.

How to enable the feature

Users can enable the function by finding the official kifli.hu app in the Apps section of the ChatGPT application and linking it to their existing kifli.hu account with a few clicks. After a one-time sign-in, ChatGPT can assist directly with shopping tasks, while the order review and final checkout continue to take place on the kifli.hu website.

What the chat assistant can do

According to the company, the ChatGPT-enabled flow will provide a markedly different shopping experience. Examples of supported tasks include:

  • asking ChatGPT to find a higher-quality olive oil and add it to the basket;
  • assembling a carbonara recipe and adding all required ingredients to the cart;
  • planning a weekly menu for a family;
  • identifying items on a handwritten shopping list from an image;
  • recommending discounted products tailored to a specific diet.

Instead of browsing menus and categories, users can simply describe what they need; once a basket is ready, a single click transfers them to kifli.hu for the usual review and payment steps.

Technical background and AI strategy

The company says the development is built on the owner Rohlik Group’s own artificial intelligence infrastructure. In addition to the ChatGPT integration, kifli.hu has developed and operates a proprietary Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. MCP is described as an open communication standard that allows AI to connect securely to various applications and services, enabling kifli.hu to link to a broader set of AI platforms and assistants over time, beyond ChatGPT.

Simultaneously, kifli.hu continues to develop its in-house AI shopping assistant, Maia, which underpins the company’s AI strategy. The company characterizes Maia as one of Europe’s advanced AI-based shopping solutions: it supports the entire shopping journey in Hungarian via conversational interaction, from product search and recipe suggestions to basket assembly, selection of delivery time slots, order management, customer support and secure payments.

Why this matters

The ChatGPT integration can simplify the shopping process for users who prefer a conversational, hands-free interface for weekly grocery planning. For the company, the move represents a strategic expansion: leveraging Rohlik Group’s infrastructure and the MCP could enable kifli.hu to interoperate with multiple AI platforms, while continuing to advance its own Maia assistant.

The company’s announcement states the service will be available from July.
