AI in Energy 2026: turning energy data into business value

The AI in Energy 2026 conference examines how energy-sector data can be transformed into strategic, bankable business value through AI-driven operations and new financing models.

Portfolio's new AI in Energy conference, launching this year, focuses on practical business uses of digitalization and artificial intelligence in the energy sector. The program is built around three central questions: how energy data can be converted into a genuine business strategy; how AI can be integrated into everyday corporate operations; and which investment, financing or business models can make data-driven operations a sustainable competitive advantage.

What the sessions cover

  • The first session traces the path from data to AI strategies. It will examine what production, consumption, network and market data energy companies generate, how the underlying measurement and data-management architecture is constructed, and why data quality, validation and prioritization are critical. The block also discusses how traditional analytics can evolve into predictive and then generative AI solutions, and what constitutes a deliberate corporate AI strategy.

  • The second session focuses on operational, practical questions. Here digitalization is framed not as an isolated IT project but as an operational model change: topics include real-time monitoring, automated control, predictive consumption and production forecasting, AI-based scheduling, portfolio optimization and optimization of hybrid energy systems. The conference will also look at how energy management increasingly becomes an IT-driven decision-support function.

  • The third session analyzes the process from strategic decision to value creation. Participants will learn how digitalization investments in energy can be financed, what roles CAPEX, OPEX or service-based constructions can play, and when a software or AI development becomes a bankable, commercially justified project. The program gives special attention to monetizing flexibility, virtual power plant models, demand response options, dynamic tariffs and strategic use of data assets.
