Ahead of the holiday season, Amazon added more than 100 new shopping-related capabilities to its Alexa voice assistant. The updates let users manage lists and subscriptions, change delivery instructions, address payment or billing issues, and ask about Prime and Audible subscriptions.
What the new features do
- List management: Users can create new lists with Alexa, register existing lists, view their contents, and add or edit items via voice commands.
- Subscription control: Alexa can adjust recurring deliveries — for example, changing a product's delivery frequency from every month to every three months.
- Delivery instructions: Users can modify delivery details such as changing an address or adding drop-off instructions.
- Billing and subscriptions: Alexa can answer questions about Prime and Audible subscriptions and help with billing or payment issues.
Context and usage figures
This year Amazon has introduced several AI-focused shopping features, including a shopping assistant and ways to notify users about new products and offers. The company reported that since the start of the year the number of people using agentic features has grown eightfold, and over the last 12 months more than 400 million consumers have used Alexa for shopping.
Why this matters
The expansion aims to allow Alexa to handle more complex, transaction-related tasks, streamlining shopping workflows through voice. The rollout is timed before the holiday season when consumer demand and online orders typically increase.
Limitations
Amazon did not provide detailed technical or availability information in the announcement, so specific features may vary by country and device.
