On Oct 27, 2025, Anthropic announced an expansion of Claude for Financial Services that includes a Claude for Excel add‑in in beta, additional connectors to live market and research data, and six prebuilt Agent Skills tailored to common finance tasks. These updates build on Sonnet 4.5’s state‑of‑the‑art performance on finance tasks; Sonnet 4.5 scored 55.3% accuracy on the Vals AI Finance Agent benchmark.
Claude for Excel — beta research preview
Claude for Excel is being released in beta as a research preview. The add‑in places Claude in an Excel sidebar where the model can read, analyze, modify and create workbooks. Anthropic highlights that Claude records and explains the actions it takes and allows users to jump directly to the cells referenced in its explanations.
Anthropic gives an example where Claude analyzes Acme Grille, Inc.’s consolidated income statement for 2020–2024 to provide real‑time guidance for financial modeling. The model can preserve workbook structure and formula dependencies while modifying sheets, debug and fix cell formulas, populate templates with new data and assumptions, or build spreadsheets from scratch.
Claude for Excel complements Anthropic’s existing Microsoft integrations: in Claude apps the model can create and edit files (including Excel and PowerPoint) and connect to Microsoft 365 to search files, emails and Teams conversations. Selected Claude models are also available in Microsoft Copilot Studio and Researcher agent.
The Excel add‑in is available as a beta research preview to Max, Enterprise and Teams users. Anthropic will collect real‑world feedback from the initial 1,000 users before a broader rollout.
Connecting Claude to live information — new connectors
Connectors give Claude direct access to external tools and platforms. In July, Anthropic added connectors for S&P Capital IQ, Daloopa, Morningstar and PitchBook. The newly announced connectors provide additional real‑time and proprietary information:
- Aiera: supplies real‑time earnings call transcripts and investor event summaries. Aiera’s connector also enables a data feed from Third Bridge, giving access to expert interviews and company intelligence.
- Chronograph: provides operational and financial data for private equity investors for portfolio monitoring and due diligence, including performance metrics, valuations and fund‑level data.
- Egnyte: enables secure search of permitted internal data rooms, investment documents and approved financial models while preserving governed access controls.
- LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group): connects Claude to live market data such as fixed‑income pricing, equities, foreign exchange rates, macroeconomic indicators and analysts’ estimates.
- Moody’s: provides proprietary credit ratings, research and company data — including ownership, financials and news for more than 600 million public and private companies — to support compliance, credit analysis and business development.
- MT Newswires: supplies the latest global multi‑asset class news on financial markets and economies.
Anthropic’s documentation provides guidance on MCP connector setup and prompting best practices for each connector.
New Agent Skills for finance tasks
Agent Skills are collections of instructions, scripts and resources that Claude can use to perform specific tasks across Claude.ai, Claude Code and the API. Anthropic added six finance‑focused skills:
- Comparable company analysis: valuation multiples and operating metrics that can be refreshed with updated data.
- Discounted cash flow models: full free cash flow projections, WACC calculations, scenario toggles and sensitivity tables.
- Due diligence data packs: processing data room documents into Excel spreadsheets containing financials, customer lists and contract terms.
- Company teasers and profiles: condensed company overviews for pitch books and buyer lists.
- Earnings analyses: research of quarterly transcripts and financials to extract key metrics, guidance changes and management commentary.
- Initiating coverage reports: industry analysis, company deep dives and valuation frameworks for beginning coverage reports.
These skills are being rolled out in preview for Max, Enterprise and Teams users.
