On August 12, 2025, Anthropic announced that it will offer Claude for Enterprise and Claude for Government to agencies across the three branches of the U.S. federal government — executive civilian agencies, the legislative branch, and the judiciary — for a nominal fee of $1. The offering is available for one year.
Why Anthropic is making the offer
Anthropic said the goal is to remove cost barriers so federal employees can use advanced AI to better serve the American public as AI adoption reshapes industries. By charging $1, the company intends to enable government access to the same AI capabilities that are already used in the private sector.
The announcement notes that government partners are already using Claude for a range of tasks, from accelerating scientific research to supporting mission-critical national security operations.
How agencies can access Claude for $1
Anthropic credited its partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA) for facilitating wider access. Claude was added to the GSA schedule last week, which streamlined procurement and now enables this expanded offer.
The package includes:
- Claude for Government — supports FedRAMP High workloads, allowing federal workers to use Claude for sensitive but unclassified tasks;
- Claude for Enterprise — enterprise access to Anthropic’s frontier models with continuous updates as new capabilities are released.
Anthropic will also provide technical support to help agencies implement Claude quickly into productivity and mission workflows. The one-dollar offering and accompanying support will be available for one year.
Security, compliance and deployment options
Anthropic emphasized that the deployment meets the government’s highest security standards: Claude for Government is certified for FedRAMP High, the strictest standard for handling unclassified sensitive government data.
Through partnerships with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Palantir, agencies can access Claude via their existing secure infrastructure while maintaining full control over their data.
Existing government use cases
The announcement cites specific government uses of Claude:
- The Department of Defense selected Claude under an agreement with a maximum ceiling of $200 million with the Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office to advance U.S. national security capabilities.
- At Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, 10,000 scientists and researchers use Claude daily to accelerate scientific discoveries.
- The District of Columbia Department of Health deployed Claude to help residents access health services in multiple languages.
Next steps and coordination
Anthropic said it is coordinating with the GSA and other government partners to implement the initiative smoothly and quickly. The company stated its intent to help the public sector adopt advanced AI for tasks ranging from scientific research to constituent services, combining broad accessibility with strict security requirements.
Anthropic also expressed the hope that other companies will take similar steps to ensure the U.S. government has the tools it needs to operate efficiently and effectively.
How to get started
