On September 15, 2025, Anthropic announced that Claude Sonnet 4–powered coding intelligence is generally available within Xcode 26. Xcode is Apple’s integrated development environment (IDE) providing tools to develop, test and distribute apps for Apple platforms.
What the Claude integration provides
When developers sign into their Claude account inside Xcode, they gain access to several Claude Sonnet 4 features:
- Coding assistant: interact with project code using natural language. Claude automatically gathers context from the project and supports conversation history and file attachments to assist with debugging, refactoring and building features.
- Coding tools: generate documentation, obtain explanations for highlighted code sections, create SwiftUI previews and playgrounds, and make inline code changes directly in the editor.
Claude subscription usage limits are shared across platforms, so a portion of an account’s quota can be consumed via Xcode.
How to get started
To enable Claude in Xcode:
- Download Xcode 26 from the Mac App Store.
- Open Xcode preferences and go to the Intelligence settings.
- Log in with your Claude account.
The Claude integration in Xcode works with plans that include Claude Code: Pro and Max plans, as well as premium seats on Team and Enterprise subscriptions.
For more technical details, see the Xcode 26 release notes and Apple’s documentation on writing code with intelligence in Xcode.
Why this matters
Embedding Claude Sonnet 4 directly into Xcode aims to speed up app development by keeping coding assistance inside the developer’s normal workflow. For teams already using Claude subscriptions, the integration consolidates usage under existing quotas and enables features like natural-language debugging, automated documentation and inline edits without leaving the IDE.
