The datasette-llm plugin has reached version 0.1a9 with a small but practical user-experience improvement affecting Datasette Agent. The plugin now automatically picks up the default model configured for LLM.
What changed?
- Previously, when starting Datasette Agent, users often had to explicitly specify which model to use. A common example was passing a setting such as: -s plugins.datasette-agent.default_model gpt-6-astra.
- With the 0.1a9 release, datasette-llm detects and uses the default model that LLM is configured to use, so that explicit default_model configuration for Datasette Agent is no longer required to start the agent.
Example startup
A simple command that will now work without separately specifying the Datasette Agent default model:
uvx --with datasette-agent datasette content.db --internal internal.db
Why this matters
The change reduces configuration steps needed to get Datasette Agent running, which is convenient for users who already have a default model set for LLM. It removes a small source of friction during development, testing, and straightforward deployments.
Further work
The author of the update indicated there are larger upgrades planned for Datasette Agent. The 0.1a9 release is a modest usability improvement while those broader changes are developed.
