Facebook has added a new feature called "Your algorithm" that lets users more directly control which posts and Reels videos the platform shows them. The option is intended to allow finer-grained personalization of the News Feed and recommended Reels.
Where to find it and what you can set
The setting appears in the three-dot menu on posts and videos. Under the "Your algorithm" option, users can specify topics they are interested in and topics they are not. For example, a user can indicate they like cooking videos, cycling, and humorous content, but are not interested in motorsport — the algorithm will then attempt to honor those preferences when selecting content to show.
Extending an Instagram control
Meta is bringing to Facebook a capability similar to one it introduced on Instagram earlier this year: the control lets users mark whether they are interested in a particular piece of content. If a user marks a post as not of interest, the post is closed and the user can provide more detail about why they disliked it.
AI toolkit powers personalization
As The Verge notes, an AI-based toolkit underlies these new controls; Meta uses that toolkit to personalize the content presented to users on Facebook.
Rollout
Meta is rolling out the new features gradually. The company frames the change as a way to give users greater control over their Feed and Reels recommendations and to make it easier to steer the algorithm toward their preferences.
