Luffu, the startup founded by Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman, announced on Tuesday the Luffu Link, an LTE-enabled health and safety wristband designed to monitor both physical and mental well‑being. The company says the device combines all‑day health sensing, voice logging, location awareness and the ability to request help from trusted contacts even when no phone is nearby.
Price, availability and design
The device is available for preorder at $250 and is expected to ship in early 2027. Luffu lists the later retail price at $300. Link comes in three colors: halo gold, onyx black and sterling blue. The company emphasizes a jewelry‑inspired, unobtrusive design intended to feel unlike a conventional screened wearable or a bulky emergency pendant.
Data collection and functionality
Link continuously collects common health and wellness metrics such as activity, sleep, resting heart rate, calories burned, heart‑rate variability (HRV) and breathing rate. Those measurements are used to identify daily patterns, track changes over time and generate personalized insights or alerts.
Users can also press a button to capture momentary information by voice — medication updates, symptoms, meals, mood notes, reminders and similar inputs. The Luffu app organizes these voice entries and incorporates them into the family’s broader health context.
Location, check‑ins and help requests
Built‑in GPS allows trusted contacts to see a wearer’s location history and get notifications when the wearer enters or leaves specified zones. A quick double press provides a lightweight check‑in to family members without making a call or sending a text. Built‑in LTE enables help requests to be sent without a phone; Luffu says LTE data service is included with the device and does not require a separate carrier plan.
For example, if a wearer says, “I fell and hurt my wrist. Can someone come get me?” Link will send the voice message together with the wearer’s location, battery level and relevant health data, such as heart rate and recent activity, to designated family members.
Target users and the role of the Luffu app
Luffu sees its market including family caregivers, independent older adults and health‑ and safety‑conscious individuals who want to stay informed without constant check‑ins. Link is designed to complement the Luffu health‑monitoring app the company launched earlier this year. The app uses AI in the background to collect and organize family information, learn day‑to‑day patterns and flag notable changes so families can address potential well‑being issues.
The startup grew out of Park and Friedman’s own experiences caring for family members and aging parents. Park cited research in an interview noting that family caregivers spend over 27 hours per week on average providing care, and said technology can help reduce that burden by consolidating fragmented tools.
Future plans
Luffu has also teased development of a home device to extend its system into the household, framing it as the next step in an intelligent family care platform.
In sum: Luffu Link is a screenless, LTE wristband combining voice logging, location sharing and emergency help requests with continuous health tracking, integrated into the Luffu app. It is available for preorder at $250, ships in early 2027, and will retail at $300.
