According to a new forecast published by Gartner, the global revenues of semiconductor manufacturers could increase by 92% this year, reaching approximately $1,560 billion.
This projection is substantially higher than Gartner’s earlier outlook, which had expected a 64% rise to $1,320 billion.
Timeline and baseline figures
- Semiconductor manufacturers generated $809 billion in revenue last year. Gartner projects that, given the current acceleration, revenue could reach $1,940 billion next year.
- Revenue from semiconductors (chip sales) is also expected to grow: Gartner estimates chip-derived revenue will climb from $589 billion last year to $718 billion this year, and to $864.4 billion in the following year.
Drivers of growth
Gartner analyst Ben Lee points to sustained investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure and rising memory-chip prices as the primary drivers behind the industry’s accelerating growth. These factors are supporting particularly strong expansion in the memory segment.
Memory-specific projections
- Gartner expects revenue from memory chip sales to be $837 billion this year and to increase to $1,075 billion next year.
- The DRAM segment’s revenue is forecast to expand by 246.6% this year.
- NAND flash memory revenue is projected to grow by 371.9% this year.
Why this matters
A surge in demand for memory chips and AI infrastructure can significantly reshape industry revenues, producing substantial near-term gains for manufacturers. The durability of this upturn will depend on continued investment and how memory prices evolve.
