ProSuli’s decade: from device donations to teacher training, robotics and AI

Since its 2015/2016 launch with five schools, Yettel’s ProSuli program has shifted from providing devices and mobile broadband to concentrating on teacher training, pedagogical support and new technologies such as robotics, VR and artificial intelligence.

Yettel’s ProSuli programme began in the 2015/2016 school year with five partner schools, initially focused on providing digital devices and stable mobile broadband so teachers and pupils could try new forms of learning. Early experience made clear that devices and connectivity alone are insufficient: everyday classroom use of digital solutions requires curricula, methodological support and trained teachers.

Over the past years the programme gradually shifted its emphasis from device support to professional development for teachers, digital collaboration, differentiated instruction and the role of artificial intelligence. Today ProSuli works with more than 170 schools.

Why train teachers?

"Digital skills are now a basic requirement for the younger generation to enter the labour market successfully, and employers should not have to invest immediately in retraining when they hire graduates," said Tőzsér Judit, Yettel’s corporate communications director. She noted that well‑prepared young people can both add value quickly and support older colleagues with their digital knowledge.

One of ProSuli’s central conclusions over the last decade is that teachers are the key agents of digital transition: by acquiring and passing on digital competencies they develop their students. Accordingly, the programme redirected its focus to teacher training, offering live and online workshops and themed courses. Its teacher training programme, accredited by the Oktatási Hivatal, has been completed by teachers in the thousands, while several thousand educators enrolled in the specialised online courses.

New technologies in school practice: VR, robotics, AI

Rapid technological change brings both challenges and opportunities for education. ProSuli responded by piloting virtual reality (VR) projects in some schools, producing detailed guidance for application use during the COVID period when teaching moved online, and introducing robotics as a complementary activity.

Robotics in ProSuli has expanded from a 20‑team pilot into a competition with 170 teams, culminating in national finals and becoming one of Hungary’s largest existing contests. Winning teams in the ProSuli robotics competition qualify for the Robotex world championship: previously teams travelled to Tallinn, and this year some earned the opportunity to go to South Korea.

The robotics activities are not presented as traditional programming clubs but as playful, project‑based sessions. Thanks to their format, tools and concepts they develop skills such as creative thinking, problem solving, teamwork and project planning — competencies increasingly demanded by the labour market.

The arrival of artificial intelligence raised further questions for education: how to use this suddenly widespread capability so that it genuinely supports learning and teaching? The programme draws a parallel to the rapid spread of social media in the 2010s: technology became widely available faster than society could prepare, with both positive and negative consequences. To avoid a similar mismatch with AI, ProSuli launched a free online AI training series for teachers in 2025 to help educators stay up to date with AI’s educational applications. Separately, the "Mesterséges intelligencia az oktatásban" (Artificial Intelligence in Education) training has already been delivered five times to teachers.

The road ahead for digital education

"The key question of digital education in the past ten years has not really changed: how can we prepare students, through their teachers, for a world that is changing faster than ever?" said Koren Balázs, the programme’s professional director. He expects AI‑based teaching methods, online collaboration and digital‑awareness programmes to grow in importance, while stressing that the crucial task remains turning technology into usable knowledge and skills for students via trained, prepared teachers.

ProSuli’s ten‑year evolution shows that placing devices is only a first step: lasting progress requires methodological development and investment in human resources so that technology becomes a natural and useful part of learning.
