Shipt, the same-day delivery platform owned by Target, has rolled out an artificial-intelligence assistant called "Ask Shipt." The company announced the new tool on Wednesday, saying it converts natural-language prompts into customized, ready-to-buy shopping carts.
What the assistant can do
Ask Shipt is designed to make shopping more intuitive by letting users describe what they need and receiving a prebuilt cart in return. Shipt cites example prompts such as "Create a cart for my Saturday tailgate for 25 people and include some brunch items," or "Build a cart for easy school lunches and after-school snacks."
Users can also upload a photo of a dish seen online or at a restaurant; the assistant will identify the ingredients and add them to the cart. The tool can generate ideas based on budget constraints as well, for instance suggesting a weeknight meal for a family of five for under $35.
Context and competitors
The launch follows recent AI enhancements on Target.com, where features such as AI-powered photo search, customer review summaries, and other personalized shopping experiences have been added. Shipt’s move places it among a growing list of delivery platforms integrating AI assistants into their apps. Earlier the same day, Instacart introduced an AI-powered grocery assistant called Clementine, and both Uber Eats and DoorDash have unveiled similar AI shopping assistants this year.
Availability
Ask Shipt is available now in the Shipt app and on Shipt.com.
