Anthropic has expanded its partnership with the US General Services Administration (GSA) under a new agreement that grants a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API to government buyers at all levels. The discount applies across product surfaces, for purchases made directly from Anthropic today and for purchases through cloud providers in the coming months, and it extends to federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments.
Scope and timing of the discount
- The agreement provides a 40% price reduction for Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API, and for the first time this discount applies across all product surfaces.
- The discount covers purchases made directly from Anthropic now and will apply to purchases through cloud providers in the coming months.
- State, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) governments are included along with federal agencies.
- Government agencies can access Claude at the OneGov discount via the GSA Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) today.
Implementation support
Anthropic is launching a dedicated program to help agencies implement Claude and maximize their use. These implementation programs are similar to those used by private-sector customers and will be made available to public-sector partners in the coming weeks.
Adoption and usage metrics
- About 500 US federal, state, and local government organizations currently use Claude.
- Weekly active users of Claude for Government have increased roughly eightfold since February.
- Usage across federal civilian agencies has grown about 20-fold in the past year.
The company notes that many of these organizations operate on tight budgets and long procurement cycles; the agreement is intended to let them apply Claude to difficult problems without large upfront commitments.
Estimated savings and payment terms
- Anthropic estimates that the discounts provided under the agreement will save the government approximately $1 billion.
- Agencies are not required to commit to a minimum spend and will pay for the usage they consume.
Examples of government use cases
The announcement includes several examples of how agencies have applied Claude:
- Utah provided Claude Code to 34 developers across 10 state agencies; 80% had a working environment within 30 minutes, and 71% reported saving 20+ hours by the end of a four-week pilot.
- A US state CIO said their team responded to a ransomware attack in 8 minutes, compared with the usual 2–3 days, thanks to Claude.
- A US federal security team used Claude Mythos to detect and patch a vulnerability that could have allowed takeover of a critical production system in about two days; a human penetration test a month earlier had missed it.
- A cybersecurity professional at a major agency found and patched bugs in critical financial systems.
- A US state IT developer moved nearly 900 API methods to a new framework in two days, for a project that had been scoped for a month.
- A US state IT director used Claude Code to document 12 legacy code repositories, mapping 467 database tables and flagging 27 risks.
- More than half of US states, several of the largest localities, and some of the country's largest critical infrastructure operators participated in Anthropic’s SLTT cyber defense program.
Security authorizations and compliance
- Agencies can use Claude for sensitive unclassified work.
- Claude for Government, which delivers coding and agentic capabilities with near-feature parity to commercial offerings, is authorized at the FedRAMP High level and was made generally available on September 30, 2026.
- Agencies can access Claude through Amazon Bedrock or Google Cloud Vertex AI. On Bedrock, Claude is authorized for FedRAMP High, with select models authorized for DoD IL4 and IL5 workloads in AWS GovCloud. On Vertex AI, Claude is authorized for FedRAMP High.
- Claude Enterprise is in the process of obtaining FedRAMP Moderate authorization via the FedRAMP 20x program.
