Wilson plans global SAP S/4HANA overhaul in 2027 to unify operations

Wilson Sporting Goods, a leading global maker of sports equipment and apparel, is standardizing its digital systems to align finance, procurement, warehousing, international trade and other core functions across its worldwide operations. The company plans to begin a large-scale SAP S/4HANA transformation in 2027 to create a single, transparent and scalable operating foundation.

For nearly two decades Wilson has relied on SAP solutions to support its global business. Its current digital environment integrates several SAP components, including SAP ERP Central Component, SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Datasphere, SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Business Technology Platform, alongside SAP Ariba, SAP Concur and SAP LeanIX. These interconnected solutions help ensure that inventory, order and logistics information are available through unified processes.

"In a global supply chain, speed alone is not enough: it is equally important that financial, inventory, procurement and logistics data are built on the same reality," said Hidvégi Péter, Managing Director of SAP Hungary. He added that when cloud, business data and AI operate as parts of a single system, companies can respond not only faster but also more predictably and transparently.

Why this matters in sports retail

Even a single tennis racket passes through a complex multinational supply chain: from raw-material sourcing and manufacturing to warehousing, customs clearance, packaging and finally retail sale or home delivery. The same complexity applies across Wilson’s product range, including tennis, basketball, baseball and golf equipment and sportswear.

The sports market is also vulnerable to sudden demand spikes: a Grand Slam tournament or an outstanding performance by a Wilson-supported athlete can quickly raise interest in specific products. In such cases, coordinated and rapid responses across inventory, manufacturing, warehouses, trade partners and online channels are critical.

2027: next phase of digital transformation

Wilson’s planned SAP S/4HANA transformation in 2027 aims to expand capabilities in areas such as extended warehouse management, transportation management, quality management and omnichannel operations. Established SAP solutions like SAP Extended Warehouse Management, SAP Global Trade Services, SAP Concur and SAP Ariba will continue to support the company’s international activities.

Artificial intelligence is already part of the preparation work: Wilson is using SAP’s business AI assistant, Joule, to support code conversion for the migration. This illustrates that AI is being embedded in the process of renewing enterprise systems, not treated as a separate IT project.

Invisible technology, visible business impact

For professional athletes sponsored by Wilson — including Alex de Minaur — equipment details matter on court. Behind the scenes, however, many business processes must operate in sync to deliver the right products to players, retail partners and consumers on time. The collaboration between SAP and Wilson aims to keep this technological backbone flexible, transparent and scalable as global operations grow more complex.

The S/4HANA program launching in 2027 will modernize both IT and business processes, and with the help of AI and cloud technologies it seeks to enable quicker, more predictable reactions to fast-changing market demand.
