Artificial intelligence has reached the music industry, and several streaming platforms have begun to mark songs that were created with or significantly assisted by AI. Deezer, Spotify and other services have already implemented such labels, and YouTube Music is now following suit.
On YouTube Music, a "Made with AI" label will appear in the player for tracks where the company determines that AI played a notable role. Tapping the label opens an information panel with further details about the AI contribution. The company says the feature will later be integrated into the main YouTube app as well.
YouTube clarified that the label does not necessarily mean the entire track was generated by AI: AI involvement can include elements such as vocals or other components that were produced or edited with AI tools. This approach mirrors practices used for other media types — images, videos and texts are already being labeled or otherwise identified when AI has contributed.
The measure aims to increase transparency for listeners by indicating when automated tools were involved in a work’s creation. YouTube has not provided precise thresholds for what constitutes "significant" AI use or an exact rollout timeline for all users; it may provide further details as the feature is implemented.
