OpenAI launches AI for Educators course in Brazilian Portuguese and Study Mode in ChatGPT for Teachers’ Day

On Teachers’ Day, OpenAI unveiled two resources aimed at demonstrating how AI can support classroom practice: a localized course on its learning platform and a step-by-step Study Mode inside ChatGPT.

AI for Educators on OpenAI Academy

The "AI for Educators" course is now available in Brazilian Portuguese on OpenAI Academy, OpenAI’s free learning platform. Designed for teachers in primary, secondary and higher education, the course covers practical uses of AI for lesson planning, creating activities and assessments, and preparing communications, while emphasizing that educators retain pedagogical judgment.

Study Mode in ChatGPT

Study Mode is a new ChatGPT feature that guides learners through a subject with sequential questions, hints, explanations and checks for understanding. Developed in collaboration with teachers, scientists and experts in pedagogy, the feature is intended to encourage active participation and reflection on one’s own reasoning.

To enable Study Mode, select "Study" from the tools menu in ChatGPT.

Classroom examples

The announcement gives practical examples of how the tools can be used. A student reviewing biology might ask the model to proceed one question at a time, wait for the student’s answer, and then help identify areas that need further review. In another example, during a science lesson on evaporation a teacher could have students use Study Mode to investigate why clothes dry on a clothesline; after the guided exchange, each student writes their own explanation and a question to bring to class discussion without referring back to the conversation. Teachers can use those responses to determine which topics should be revisited with the whole class.

Why this matters

OpenAI stresses that these technologies are meant to supplement, not replace, teachers. While the tools can open new ways to learn, teachers know their students best: they ask the right questions and help turn curiosity into knowledge. The course and Study Mode are presented as supports for classroom practice that preserve teacher expertise and judgment.

Invitation to try

For Teachers’ Day, OpenAI invites educators to explore the AI for Educators course and try Study Mode to see how these tools might be useful in different teaching contexts.
