The Ministry of Education and Child Protection (Oktatási és Gyermekügyi Minisztérium) will soon put a new strategy on the educational use of artificial intelligence up for public consultation, Minister Lannert Judit announced. The proposed regulation aims to make use of AI’s opportunities while protecting children and developing their knowledge in age-appropriate ways.
Main aims and emphases
Ministerial adviser Horváth Ádám stressed that artificial intelligence has become unavoidable both in education and in the economy, making system-level preparation essential. According to him, the school system must cultivate the skills and competencies necessary for students to succeed in the future labor market.
Horváth said the planned regulation should be responsible and well considered: while taking advantage of AI’s potential, it should primarily focus on developing and safeguarding children’s learning. The ministry said that dialogue will play a central role in finalizing the strategy; in addition to experts, parents and students will be invited to participate in the consultation process.
Age-differentiated approach
The regulation will be differentiated because AI use is not recommended at every age. "There are certain age groups for whom we do not yet recommend the use of artificial intelligence," Horváth Ádám said, adding that emphasis should be placed on the competencies that lead to productive and conscious use of the technology.
Related data and background
The ministry noted that recent PISA results also shed light on Hungarian students’ patterns of AI use. Lannert Judit presented those PISA results at a press conference; a related report in the news archive is dated 8 September 2026.
Note on the article’s preparation
The ministry’s announcement states that an AI assistant participated in preparing the material; the final content was edited and verified by a journalist.
